Pineapple Nectarine Salsa with Lime and Cilantro essential oils

Hello everyone!

I’m Dustin. I’m a wellness advocate, digital marketer, and creator of awesome websites – including this one! Jessie and I have been friends for a few years now and I asked her if I could be a guest poster on her blog. Being the awesome person she is, she was happy to oblige. My relationship with food is simple – I love it and eat a lot of it… much to the dismay of my stomach sometimes! There are many days where I instantly regret the volume of food I consume as it often far exceeds the amount my stomach can handle. I’m sure you may have been there a time or two. Not a pleasant experience to say the least.

Luckily, I have found relief through natural solutions and essential oils which have been a complete GAME CHANGER for me! Not only do they support me when I overeat, but also aid in everyday healthy digestive function and have a wide variety of health benefits. That conversation can be reserved for another time. After all, this is a foodie blog so let’s circle back around to that.

With so many options for spices, seasonings, and extracts on the market that can help enhance our food, you might be wondering, “Why should I cook with essential oils?” While cooking methods often depend on diet and personal preference, there are several benefits to using essential oils in cooking. Not only will essential oils provide any dish with powerful flavor, but they also allow you to enjoy any internal health benefits of that oil. They can even provide a safe, natural way to flavor your food when fresh ingredients are not readily available.

And a little goes a long way! For example, just one drop of peppermint essential oil is equivalent to 28 cups of peppermint tea. Whoa!

However, not all essential oils are created equal and some are not safe to consume. Always follow every safety precaution on your bottle of oil and be sure to only use oils for cooking that are intended to be taken internally. A good rule of thumb is to look at the bottle – if it has supplement facts and internal use instructions, it is more that likely safe to consume. I would also suggest being very selective in the oils you buy. Never settle for anything less than the best and always buy them from a company that specializes in essential oils specifically.

Ok, enough chit-chat, let’s dive into a recipe!

Pineapple Nectarine Salsa with Lime and Cilantro essential oils

1 pineapple, sliced and diced
2 small nectarines, diced (add more if desired)
½ cup chopped cilantro
½ cup red onion diced (about half a medium onion)
5 drops Lime essential oil
2 drops Cilantro essential oil
3 teaspoons sea salt

Directions
1. Mix all ingredients together.
2. Allow salsa to sit and chill for at least 4 hours before eating to allow flavors to marinate.
3. Serve with chips, over fish tacos, or as a tangy fruit salsa on its own.

Benefits of Essential Oils Used

Lime essential oil: Cold-pressed from the peel of fresh limes, Lime essential oil is refreshing and energizing in both aroma and taste. Due to its high limonene content, Lime provides internal cleansing benefits as well as supporting a health immune function. Lime is known for its ability to uplift, balance, and energize.

Cilantro essential oil: Internal use of Cilantro promotes healthy digestion and supports healthy immune and nervous system functions. Cilantro’s culinary uses are endless, adding a flavorful twist to meats, salads, dips, and guacamole.
