Martha & Marley Spoon

Martha & Marley Spoon

When you think ‘Martha Stewart’ you don’t think ‘meal delivery service.’ But, you sure as heck should… and here’s why!

I had the privileged of trying out Martha and Marley Spoon. For those of you who have not heard of it before, it is a new meal delivery service from Martha Stewart. But, it isn’t like any ol’ meal service… trust me… I’ve tried multiple ones… Marley Spoon has a deep-rooted mission that goes miles beyond convenience.

They strive to make cooking pleasurable. For some of us, that’s hard. So, by making weeknight meals easy, simple, and delicious they hope that you’ll fall in love with cooking. Each and every recipe celebrates the season’s flavors and ingredients grown during that time.

One really cool thing about this company is that they support the “small guys.” You wont find any mass-produced proteins in your boxes, but rather sustainably grown products from small farmers.

Martha & Marley Spoon sends the recipes of your choice and the fresh, pre-portioned ingredients you need to cook them directly to your door, so you can enjoy something new and delicious any night of the week.

Okay, now to the part we’ve all been waiting for… let’s talk about food!

I was able to pick from several different options that week, 12 to be exact. And, if we are getting technical, there are over 18,000 recipes from the Martha Stewart Archives that are circulated. I really like this as my fiancé can’t have gluten. However, I really did want to dive into the bowl of creamy pasta they offered that week… sorry, side tracked! The multiple different choices are great, too, because if you have a picky eater in your house, or someone with other allergies, you can steer clear of them and go with one of the other options that everyone is sure to enjoy.

The first meal really set the bar high for the second. Mmmmm Stir-Fried Pork and Veggies with Jasmine Rice.  It was the perfect mix of spicy, sweet, and acidic in one bite. It really had a true balance of flavors. And for those of you who are super foodies like me, you know that these are the things that make the perfect bite!

The ingredients smelt fresh. Now I know that sounds weird, but you can tell a good quality piece of produce by how it smells in its raw form. They were vibrant in color, and none of them showed up sub par of perfect. This is key to mention because I had this problem with some of the other meal delivery services. I had gotten produce that was moldy or soft.

It was nice to be able to recognize every ingredient. Nothing was too far out of the ordinary, which for those who may find cooking intimidating, will find this aspect rewarding.

The pictures were easy to follow and super useful. You know how sometimes you’re reading a recipe and it’s the same picture ten times over?! Not there case here! They were colorful and made me drool while reading it. The recipes were the perfect mix of informational and functional images. You won’t have any issues following along with these!

Second meal was a juicy hanger steak with a grilled potato and poblano pepper salad. Brandon said that this is the best piece of steak I’ve ever cooked. When we first moved in together, steak was not my forte; since moving to Iowa, however, I’ve gotten much better at it! The steak was not only juicy, but so flavorful and tender. Despite the fact that you only added salt and pepper to this steak, the quality of this piece of meat was excellent. With a great quality protein all you truly need is just some salt and pepper- Nailed it!

There is something so satisfying about a warm potato salad. If you’ve never had one, you need to get on that ASAP! Maybe you’ll get lucky and this salad will be on the menu next week! (hint hint!) The chimichurri really added a nice acidic touch to these dish. It pulled the whole dish together making it one cohesive plate. The fresh herbs really paired nicely against the richness of the hanger steak.

At the end of the evening, after the kitchen has been cleaned up, Martha & Marley spoon mastered taking simple and sustainable grown ingredients and turning them into manageable and achievable weeknight meals. If you don’t believe me… head on over to: to see what’s on the menu for this week and what else they have to offer.

Until then… keep on cooking!
